A variety of orthotic options

Foot orthotics are devices worn in your shoes that allow the muscles, tendons and bones of the feet and lower legs to function at their highest potential by providing realignment.

Here at Ashmore Podiatry, our qualified podiatrists utilise modern, up to date techniques including heat moulding and 3D scanning to prescribe a variety of  orthotic options available to fit into everyone’s individual circumstances ranging from slim fit inserts for fashion shoes, prefabricated devices for younger growing feet to custom made orthotics. Many podiatry devices are not readily available in pharmacies and other general medical stores.

When appropriately prescribed, orthotics can:

  • Support, balance, and better position your feet, resulting in improved postural control and function.
  • Decrease pain and increase stability in an unstable joint.
  • Prevent potential progression or development of a deformity or degenerative changes.
  • Aid in the reduction and redistribution of high-pressure areas in the feet.
  • Speed up recovery time following injury or during rehabilitation.

Orthotics are used to treat conditions including:

  • Heel or arch pain
  • General foot pain
  • Back, hip, knee, or shin pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Growing pains
  • Flat Feet & High Arched Feet
  • Aching or tired legs and or feet
  • Neuroma
  • Clawed or hammer toes
  • Bunions
  • Achilles tendon problems
  • Ankle instabilities (recurrent sprains)

Orthotics requirements are very individual, and the type of orthotic device prescribed by our podiatrists is dependent on several factors:

  • Your height, age, and weight.
  • Your presentation of injury or complaint.
  • The activities or sports you will primarily use the devices for
  • The footwear you require the devices to be worn in.
  • The support and force required to achieve efficient mobility and function through the feet and lower limb.
  • Your sensitivity to ground reaction forces.

Thorough assessments

A comprehensive examination, including a biomechanical assessment, gait analysis, and review of usual footwear will aid in identifying the causes of any foot or leg pain you may be experiencing. This will enable your podiatrist to prescribe the best type of device suited to your current foot needs and lifestyle. We pride ourselves on our thorough assessments and exams and routinely perform this exam as part of our commitment to clinical excellence and providing you with the best outcomes. This examination helps us make an accurate diagnosis of your complaint and prescribe the appropriate treatment and management plan.

Footwear and orthotics go hand-in-hand with one another, and work best in combination of other treatment modalities such as exercises to aid in the overall strengthening of the feet and legs.

Our orthotics are 3D printed using the services of Footwork Orthotic Laboratory. Footwork is a pioneer of producing individually prescribed orthotics using precision machining. This allows us to craft orthotics to a level not possible with traditional techniques.
